HARD CHEESE FOR REST AS ROYALE WIN CUP
Royale With Cheese were crowned champions at the end of a gruelling seven-match day in the Daily Echo and Hampshire Chronicle sponsored Soccerclub Cup.
On a hot day, 16 teams fought it out in a World Cup-style tournament at Kings' School in Winchester.
And it was Royale With Cheese who won through, defeating Real Winchester 3-0 in the final.
But it was in the group stages that the shock of the day occurred.
Last year's winners, Skeletor, could only manage a third place finish in group A, with Cuban and Connect progressing to the quarter-finals.
After a tense set of quarter-finals, with two of the games going to penalties, it was Cuban, Boca, Real Winchester and Royale who progressed, with the latter two making the final.
Cuban won the third place play-off but it was Royale who earned the right to pop the champagne corks, after a convincing final win.
"It was a great day," said Jamie Barker, tournament organiser.
"Everybody gave their all in sunny conditions, which helped to create an eventful competition."
Soccerclub would like to thank all the teams for taking part and would also like to thank the team of helpers, including Steph Wynn and Darren Gough, for all their support in creating a fantastic day.
